What is Long Island Oddities?
LIO is dedicated to covering all that makes Long Island the interesting and unique place we all love. We aim to meet this goal through this website, documentaries we produce, lectures, and a magazine. We maintain an online store where you can help support our future endeavors.
This website is broken down into the following sections:
Here you will find our books, magazine and DVDs. Our magazine brings you more of the things you come here for, our DVDs document Long Island in all its bountiful oddness, and our books are truly unique. Take a look.
Abandoned Long IslandA glimpse into the past can be seen in abandoned buildings across the island. Some are monumental and have stood the test of time, while others have sadly been demolished. We cover abandoned factories, state hospitals, houses, and historic sites.
Bygone Long Island These articles are about bygone leftovers from eras long past. Unlike sites covered in the abandoned se ction, these sites are not necessarily abandoned, but still are a link to our heritage as Long Islanders.
Cemeteries
T hese are not your run of the mill burial grounds. To make it into this section a cemetery must be notab le for either uniqueness, or historical c onnection.
Paranormal, Folklore & UFOS
This section covers Long Island's ric h f olklore. These are Stories that are passe d down from generations. Here tales about infamously haunted locations all around the isl and. We also cover Long Island's UFO sightings, crashes and abductions. Even if you don't believe in the paranormal, the tales are part of our heritage.
These articles cover the odder things you drive by everyday but may not know much about. Also covered are quaint little roadside eateries, such as small diners and luncheonettes. Basically, all the things that make a typical Long Island Road trip exciting are covered here..
